Your baby's first birthday is such a special milestone, and what better way to celebrate than with a fun first birthday photoshoot? Whether you'd love a traditional Cake Smash & Splash or prefer a simple birthday-themed session without the cake, I offer both, so you can choose the experience that's right for your little one.

Sessions take place in my cosy garden studio in Elsenham and are relaxed, fun and led by your baby's personality. Some little ones can't wait to dive into the cake, while others are a little more cautious – and that's absolutely fine! After the cake smash, we finish with a splash in my little vintage tin bath, where we often capture some of the biggest smiles and giggles of the session.

What age are cake smash sessions suitable for?

Cake smash sessions are designed for babies celebrating their first birthday, usually around 11–13 months.

Do I need to provide the cake?

Yes — clients are required to provide their own cake for the session. This is due to health, safety and allergy considerations. I recommend a simple, soft sponge cake that is easy for your baby to explore and smash. I’m happy to offer suggestions if needed.

What is a cake smash and splash session?

The session is typically split into three parts: simple portraits before the cake, the cake smash itself, and a splash bath afterwards to finish with fun, clean-up images.

What should my baby wear?

You’re welcome to bring an outfit for the portrait portion of the session. Many parents choose a simple romper or themed outfit.

For the cake smash, babies are usually in a nappy cover or outfit suitable for getting messy.

For the splash bath, babies are photographed either in a clean nappy or unclothed. The bath is styled so that only the upper body is visible in images, ensuring all photographs remain appropriate and tastefully composed. Towels are provided for after the bath.
